I have to admit that I’m luke-warm on Facebook. There’s just so much stuff there. The good, the bad and the ugly, and it’s all there. All the time. It’s a bad place to linger for those of us who are anxiety-prone.

But I have to say, there are some incredibly smart, creative and generous homeschooling mama’s in the various homeschooling groups who post about their experiences and ideas. One of these beautiful ladies mentioned Washi tape. I had no idea what that was, and just filed it away in the ol’ memory bank until it came up again for some reason. If ever. Well, if anyone else has been living under a rock like me, it’s basically colorful tape similar to masking tape. And it’s awesome!

We follow a literature-based curriculum, to which I add entirely too many books. It’s wonderful, but it can be overwhelming at times, especially when it comes to free reads. Washi tape to the rescue! I simply chose one color per year and put a strip of that color Washi tape on the binding of the book, and voila! At a glance, everyone can see what year each books is suitable for so there’s no more guessing or losing books for the kindergartener among those for the 4th grader (or buying multiple of the same book because it was misfiled by the well-meaning 4yo).

I chose the rainbow order of colors, so red is year 1, orange is year 2, etc. Of course around year 7 I run into some trouble, but I have some time before I need to take a deep dive into the Washi color vault and sort that out.

And it makes my bookshelves even more pretty! I just love it!

It’s the little things I guess…
